Kieran Fenby-Hulse

Dr Kieran Fenby-Hulse
Associate Dean (Research & Innovation)
What area does your research focus on?
My current work involves working closely with communities and organisations to imagine and devise alternative socio-cultural futures. I specialise in arts-based inquiry, civic and community engagement, imagination, and impact.
I take an interdisciplinary approach to both my research and teaching, drawing on artistic practices and humanities methodologies to explore, challenge and interrogate notions of community engagement, regeneration, and social innovation. I have a particular interest in culture, community, leisure and tourism on the coast.
What are the other key aspects of your role?
I am currently Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and Research Director for the Institute for Collective Place Leadership. These roles involve research strategy development, research capability and capacity development, and the line management of the Professoriate.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I have two small children who take up most of my time, but I love being outdoors, theatre, and theme parks.
What do you think you could particularly offer mentoring support with?
I am LGBTQ+, a parent of 2 adoptive children, and have had a career that has straddled professional service and academic roles. I feel I would be well suited to supporting someone who is navigating the challenges of working in and across boundaries.
