Research Associate at the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology

What area does your research focus on?

I’m an enthusiastic political scientist and aspiring data scientist. My research covers a broad range of interests: democratic theories, intellectual property, public administration, and policies. I’m interested in issues related to creative industries, economics, politics, and the public bureaucracy.

What are the other key aspects of your role?

As the lead for data at Insights North East – a partnership between Northumbria, Newcastle, the NHS, NTCA, and local authorities – I am responsible for translating data into stories and supporting policymakers in using evidence to make (good, hopefully) public decisions.

What do you like to do outside of work?

My personal interests are as diverse as my research topics. In my spare time, I like reading, travelling, cooking, and boxing. I do kickboxing and aerial acrobatics and love dancing. I also love music and have played the clarinet since I was a teenager.

What do you think you could particularly offer mentoring support with?

As I had to move so many times in my life, I had to adapt to new and challenging environments. I am also part of different minorities: I am a woman from a deprived region in South America. Thus, I can offer support with adapting to different contexts; thriving in challenging environments; pursuing academic/professional interests in difficult settings; and balancing work goals with mental well-being.
