Dr Philip Hodgson
Assistant Professor in the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health
What area does your research focus on?
My research focuses on healthy ageing, particularly in relation to the concepts of home and health/ageing in place. My current studies include the development of a hydration education programme for use in care homes and an evaluation of a housing advice service targeted at deprived wards.
What are the other key aspects of your role?
I am the programme lead for the Master’s in Healthcare Professional Practice and I teach a lot of research modules across the programmes. My background was as a contract researcher, so I teach a lot of research methodologies and methods and offer peer support as a research mentor.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work, I spend a lot of time looking after my young children, but when / if they sleep in the future I would like to revisit my interests in cinema and sports (football, American football, cricket, tennis…).
What do you think you could particularly offer mentoring support with?
I think I can support people who are interested in developing their research careers and projects. I can also provide general guidance about research / academic careers following my previous progression. As a member of the EDI group here, I have roles with a focus on parents and part-time workers and am passionate about discussing general issues of culture in academia.
